JJ Rhatigan receive two prestigious awards at the 2019 Irish Building and Design Awards
JJ Rhatigan & Company has won two awards at the 2019 Irish Building and Design Awards, the industry’s most prestigious recognition of excellence in the building and design sectors. The Winners were announced at the black-tie awards ceremony held in the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road Dublin on November 29th.
We are thrilled to have won:
- Contractor of the Year
- International Building Project of the Year
for Carolyn House, Croydon, London
Speaking after the ceremony, Managing Director, Padraic Rhatigan, said: “Winning these prestigious Industry Awards is a great honour for all of us at JJ Rhatigan & Company. It’s a true recognition of the hard work and commitment of all the team at JJ Rhatigan underpinning the strong collaborative partnership we nurture with Clients, Design Partners, Suppliers and Subcontractors.
Despite stiff competition from our peers JJ Rhatigan has received the prestigious award of IBDA Contractor of the Year for the third year. This is a testament to the calibre of our teams companywide and recognition, on this national platform, of our Tier 1 status.
While we are obviously delighted to have been awarded Contractor of the Year, we are also proud of the fact that we have been awarded the ‘International Building Project of the Year’ Award for Carolyn House, Croydon, London.’’
Carolyn House, Croydon is an immensely successful project involving the major conversion of an existing 1960’s office block into a modern 23 storey, 183 apartment build-to-rent scheme.
We have tackled complex construction challenges with innovative solutions, such as a 6-storey rooftop addition and a major recladding package in the wake of the London Grenfell Tower fire disaster, mitigating for major building regulation changes which occurred as a result.
We have delivered a project accommodating for several design changes throughout construction as the projects end-user, a PRS provider was introduced. The team have satisfied numerous client stakeholders throughout the project, with a risk adverse ultimate client – HSBC Pension Fund.
The building has been transformed from one of dated 1960’s fabric and performance characteristics to that of a virtually self-sufficient sustainable ‘machine for living’ to suit the requirements of 21st Century occupation. This provides for a sustainable future for all, along with the substantial housing opportunities brought to the market in a time of shortage.
Finally, on this project in particular we have led the field in embracing new technology across our supply chain and establishing a robust digital ‘Golden Thread’ record of building information, critically for fire safety records.
Since embarking on our first project in the UK in 2013 the Company’s London team has grown from strength to strength, establishing strong supplier and client relationships and building an experienced and committed team. JJ Rhatigan has now delivered a number of major new build, fit-outs and refurbishments including major residential, commercial, mixed use, hotel & leisure and education projects in the UK. We are proud of our significant growth in the UK over the past 6 years and excited by what the future holds for JJ Rhatigan.
We also wish to congratulate our project partners on their IBDA wins:
- IN2 Engineering Design Partnership for their submission resulting in Trinity Business School winning the Education/School Building Project of the Year
- Carr Cotter Naessens + Denis Byrne for their submission resulting in Gardens International Development winning the Architectural Project of the Year
JJ Rhatigan is thrilled to have collaborated on these projects and delivered on their design vision.
These awards are consistent with the JJ Rhatigan philosophy of continuously ‘setting standards’ in the industry through the speed and quality of our construction methods and the integrity of our Management Team.
