Irish Construction Excellence Awards (ICE Awards)
We are thrilled to be finalists once again this year in both the Commercial and Education categories of the Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Awards. These awards recognise and reward best practices in construction and e believe both of our shortlisted projects are exceptionally deserving of this honour.
- The MU Technology, Society, and Innovation (TSI) Building has been praised as “a poster child in terms of programme, quality, and coordination,” reflecting our commitment to excellence in every aspect of the project.
- The IDA Advanced Building Solution (ABS) in Limerick stands as a testament to construction excellence, showcasing our dedication to meticulous project management, impressive sustainability achievements, and outstanding client collaboration.
JJ Rhatigan recently celebrated the completion of the remarkable €35 million Technology, Society, and Innovation (TSI) Building project at Maynooth University. This impressive 10,554m² structure stands as a beacon of forward-thinking design and functionality, meticulously crafted to cater to the evolving educational landscape and needs of future generations of students. Designed to bolster the university’s research field, the TSI Building not only serves as an educational hub but also contributes to Maynooth’s architectural skyline.
The TSI Building’s design is an architectural marvel, boasting a distinctive roofline that boldly ascends, creating a captivating visual impact on the approach to Maynooth town. Notably, the main entrance has been ingeniously designed to incorporate a biophilic zone at roof level, seamlessly integrated behind a raking parapet wall. This innovative feature not only enhances the building’s aesthetic appeal but also fosters a connection with nature, providing an uplifting environment for learning and collaboration.
Furthermore, the TSI Building sets a new standard for sustainability in educational infrastructure, proudly operating entirely free of fossil fuels. This environmentally conscious approach aligns with the university’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices.
JJ Rhatigan’s delivery of the IDA Advanced Building Solution (ABS) in Limerick showcases construction excellence through meticulous project management, sustainability achievements, and client collaboration. This €10.6 million, 3,748m² facility is targeting LEED Silver-certification and seamlessly integrates offices and manufacturing spaces, contributing to the IDA’s strategic goals.
Building upon our experience with previous IDA projects, JJ Rhatigan implemented cutting-edge communication tools such as BIM 360 Next Gen, establishing a Common Data Environment. This facilitated streamlined processes, accelerating technical approvals and issue resolutions. Despite encountering challenges such as the disruptions caused by Covid-19 and hyper-inflationary pressures, the project team demonstrated remarkable adaptability in procurement strategies, fostering close collaboration with both the supply chain and the client. Concurrently managing a sister project for the IDA in Waterford provided invaluable cross-project synergies, further enhancing operational efficiencies and project outcomes. Leveraging innovative technologies like OpenSpace and digital modelling not only underscores the company’s commitment to construction innovation but also ensures enhanced client satisfaction and strengthens our enduring partnership with the client.
