One challenging aspect of the project was working in a live university campus and residential area. Constant vigilance was required when plant and trucks were operating on the roadway parallel to the site and the project management team ensured the residents and students were never disrupted by our construction work.
This project involved the design, build and fit-out of four multi-storey accommodation blocks set around landscaped courtyards. There are 76 apartments in total, all with communal living areas and made up of 4, 5, and 6 bedroom apartment types. Further communal areas & facilities, ancillary office/reception accommodation, internal plant/ service rooms, refuse storage and covered cycle storage facilities are also provided to serve the entire development.
We redesigned the main structural frame for all four blocks from a traditional concrete block, steel and concrete frame to a complete precast concrete solution. This change, along with ensuite bathroom pods enabled us to provide more programme certainty to the Client and a more efficient build overall. The development also includes accommodation and parking facilities for the less mobile.
